JAMES JASPER BREWER
Alabama Cavalry 1862-1865
James Jasper Brewer's father was Joseph, son of Isaac and Sarah Brewer. He was born 12 Jul 1834 in Talladega County, Alabama and died 4 Sep 1902 in Hood County, Texas. He first enlisted 5 Feb 1862 at Cusseta, Alabama at age 26 for 1 year in Company E of Captain M M Slaughter's Cavalry, which was part of the 5th Battalion of Hilliard's Legion. This unit later became a part of the 10th Confederate Cavalry. He mustered in 12 Mar 1862 at Montgomery, Alabama and brought with him a horse worth $250. Following the conclusion of this tour he re-enlisted for an additional 3 years, so that in total he served for 4 years. Toward the end of the war he was captured, and was paroled 18 May 1865 at Talladega, Alabama.
