Rosanna Jane Brewer, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brewer, was born 3 May 1840 in Talladega County, Alabama. When she was young, her parents moved some of the family to neighboring St. Clair County, which is where she spent the remainder of her days. She married Confederate veteran, Pinckney C. Lowe, 15 Nov 1863 in St. Clair County. In looking at land records of St. Clair County, it is evident that the two were pretty close neighbors after Rosanna's family moved there. Pinckney had deserted around the time of their marriage, and was later captured by the Union Army. He was originally from South Carolina, and was born there 18 Mar 1836. You can read more about Rosanna and Pinckney in Rosanna's life story.
Pinckney had a bit of an interesting family background. His parents were John Obediah Lowe and Mahala Jane Flowers. His father, sadly, was murdered during a land dispute in South Carolina when Pinckney was about 3 years old, so it is doubtful that he had much of a memory of what his father looked like. His mother married Aziel Norris when Pinckney was about 7, and the family moved from Laurens County, South Carolina to Talladega County, Alabama and then to St. Clair County of the same state. Mahala made a rather interesting discovery while living in Alabama, which you can read more about in Another Wife Across the River. Needless to say, Pinckney didn't have a perfectly conventional upbringing in some ways, and the family had endured their shared of tragedies.
Unfortunately, the problems did not end there. In 1875, Pinckney was at a log rolling in Mississippi. I presume that he was down there because he was able to secure work there. Reconstruction of the South took time, and people found work where they could. It was at this gathering that he told a joke which offended a rather contrary man. This man, the next morning, fatally shot Pinckney! Additional details can be found in my article, The Mississippi Murder. He died 5 Mar 1875 in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi at the tender age of 38.
Rosanna, to my knowledge, never remarried, though she had three young children and another on the way. She passed from this life over 40 years later, on the 14th of August, 1916 in St. Clair County, Alabama and was buried in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in New London.

RELATIONSHIP TO ISAAC BREWER
Rosanna was Isaac's granddaughter. They
were surely well acquainted when she was
young, as they only lived about 2 miles apart.
Isaac died shortly after Rosanna's 12th birthday.
