Immigration records are very important in determining a family's country of origin. In so doing, researchers may be able to continue their search in those areas. These records also sometimes allow us to infer where the immigrant ancestor was born, or at least the last country of residence. At times there is also information concerning age of the immigrants as well as other fascinating details. In some instances the records might even provide the means by which the ancestor made the journey. For example, perhaps the person was on a list of indentured servants, or maybe his or her voyage was financed by royalty, etc.
